Richard Avedon is recognized as a pioneer of modern fashion photography by introducing spontaneous human expression and movement into his fashion work. I was inspired by how beautiful is the simplicity in his shot, especially the lighting and the way he captured the models naturally without making them looks too rigid and pose-y.

I had the opportunity to work with talented Elite model Alana Grieg who was also a dancer in her final year dance studies. I applied this technique using Richard Avedon’s approach and lighting style for this dance photoshoot session, playing around and improvising movement and expression as we go. Alana took my direction very well and was able execute the movements and dance forms flawlessly.
